Apologies to those of you who keep up to date with what we post.. It's been a while, to say the least! It seems everything has slowed down a lot over the Christmas season.. I've noticed a few other blogs haven't posted much recently.. Still, that gives us here at FTD no excuse. We made you a promise, to supply you with, and i quote "regular doses of bass". This clearly has not been the case recently. We have discussed this between us and can I assure you the new year will bring you more new music than ever before.
A dusting of snow on the ground and England grinds to a halt. So, if you don't fancy leaving the house this weekend here's something to keep you entertained while your wrapped up warm watching the chaos ensue.
When Tel Aviv's Asaf Borger isn't drumming for death metal band Shabira he's making some heavy, heavy dubstep. I'm pretty excited about these two tracks at the moment in particular Guided Relaxation Dub, which is one of the best tracks I've heard in ages and as usual it is made perfectly clear that Britney Spears sounds far better remixed.
When somebody remixes what is already a really good track it can either ruin it completely or add something entirely new to it. This remix gives the original a slightly more digitalised feeling, providing some forward thinking grimey futuristic dubstep, with more than a touch of personality. Check out the original as well.
Head over to the Mad Decent blog to pick up this fat remix of The Party Squad's Murderer by Diplo and Jayou. As you can imagine, with Diplo involved it's going to be pretty good but Jayou's also one of the best DJ's around at the moment and worth keeping an eye on. If your Leeds based Jayou will be up in February to play Creep! @ Wire (more information in the near future).
So, you haven't seen anything new on these pages in a bad two weeks. It's been a pretty hectic couple of weeks for the four of us (college/uni work, djing, producing, organising, sleeping, inventing chemicals, saving the world - that kind of stuff) and Mike's inability to host any mp3's anywhere on his halls' ISP doesn't help. You shouldn't accept this excuse though, and the only way we can make it upto you is giving you all some fresh, heavy-hitting mp3's. We begin after the jump...
Jack Beats' mix for Mishka's (kinda like the Urban Outfitters of New York) Keep Watch series is packed full of exclusives you've probably searched for, ones you haven't, and Jack Beats edits you wont have dreamed about. Check the rest of the series here.
I think i said a while ago that it's hard to find good fidget.. Weather it's cos I'm looking in the wrong place or maybe i just don't appreciate the real definition of 'good fidget' i still rarely come across stuff i like. There's plenty of sick dubstep going round..? Anyway, more to the point, I found something I can't stop listening to. And guess what.. It's fidget! Really jazzy bouncy fidget. I guess there is still good stuff out there somewhere! And in the crispiest of crispy 320's :)
I've been listening to this song a lot recently. And i've had it going round on repeat in my head non-stop. Not that I'm complaining.. I'm gonna say it's not the 'usual' Joker. More chilled out and.. 'Nice'...? I love it. Great vocals from Turboweekend, although I definitely prefer the Joker version! Click the download link!
Pariah is/are someone I can gather pretty much nuffin about, but these two remixes have got some flair, first on the Goulding with unbelievably well produced dubstep then giving The xx (sick band, listen to Fantasy (via the fattest subwoofer you can find) NOW) a 7am wind-down feel. Only thing I know about Pariah is that they're from London, and signed to R&S Records. Bask in the knowledge.
I honestly don't think I've been this excited about posting a song in the entire history of FTD. DZ's paired up with a little known dubstep producer, NTRLD (Brapdem Recordings/Double Drop Records) from San Francisco, for this one. A load of DZ shit's hit the fan recently but this is the only one you really NEED. It's bass like this that keeps me makes me forget other music genres exist. Credit to Major Lazer for the original too, get that entire album, you've probs been told enough times but it's something special. I've thrown in another dubstep take on In For the Kill. Yeah I know that song's 'so last year', but they were giving away for free on their Facebook page and it's a pretty solid effort, even if it is the same style as Skream's. Tek-Step have released on Double Drop Records too.
I've not heard anything from Pirate Soundsystem for a while. Maybe it's because i haven't looked for it, or because I'm more into dubstep than fidget/electro nowadays.. I don't know.. Just found this in my iTunes though. And i like it.. Pretty monotonous bassline but good. I have nothing more to say.. Just listen. Pirate Soundsystem - Get Your Heads Out
There's been a particular lack of posts recently, not been one for over a week now. I can only appologise.. I don't know what everyone's been doing but they seem to all be too busy to post..! I think there's been a lack of postable stuff to be honest.. We'll get more out to you soon. For now, here's a bouns for sticking with us through the drought!
Just got back from an incredible weekend in Edinburgh, at the 'British University Dry Slope Championships', with the Nottingham University freestyle team. I am now exhausted though as I have had 10 hours sleep since Thursday morning and every part of my body aches.
This song's been on repeat in the van all weekend and it's the perfect Sunday evening song.
I will upload the actual 320kbps version in the next couple of days but for now, enjoy.
Things seem to have slowed down a lot recently on FTD. So i'd like to make an apology. Sorry, I will try speed things up on the posting front.
Right, now that's out of the way.. I've got something for you all. Raffertie needs no introduction to be honest. He's been around since the start of time and never fails to impress. This song (which i found on ORlyTuffGuy (Thanks!)) is WILD. It's so messy but so fucking good. As usual in Raffertie's produce there's a million things going on at the same time. I don't know where he gets all his sound effects from but i want them. Listen to this loud. It's fucking filthy!
Must be a first. Dubstep taking on hardcore/deathcore/screams and guitars. I like boundaries being broken. And I love this song, Tek-One went all out to bring the filth and still keep that hardcore feel. Time to mosh the fuck out.

Okay, so I finally got my mix sorted and finished yesterday evening. And i promised I'd have it posted. Only, there were some complications.. Well, one complication.. Apparently I have too much shit on my hard-drive and there was only 470MB free or something.. Anyway, After much time spent going through my old applications and music I've finally managed to free up just enough space to export my mix. Which will be with you a bit later on. I assure you, it's worth the wait! For now, I'm letting you in on something big! I've not heard of Zeds Dead before but i got a few of their songs the other night from various sources and I'm very impressed! Here's a song to keep you going till my mix gets here:
I've been looking for an excuse to use this picture for ages. Chris set it as my desktop a while ago and i just never took it off. It's still on now.. (You'll understand the relevance soon) Excision is fast becoming one of my favorite producers. If you hadn't noticed already, I love pretty much anything that's got a ridiculous bassline. And Excision gives us just that. I think I've put one of his songs in a post before (Calypso?) but never really said anymore of it.. I heard some more stuff by him recently and fuck me.. It's heavy! I've put them in my mix (which will be on here later tonight, stay peeled!) but i thought i'd let you a head start.
So, the reason i was allowed to use the Alien vs. Predator picture.. Excision has teamed up with Endophyte (who i checked out on myspace and, to be honest, wasn't too impressed with!) and produced this:
This one's a remix of UltraBlack's 'Bear Trap' which, admittedly, i haven't heard the original of, but i'd advise against listening to this through laptop speakers - the bass is inaudible.
I first saw Trevor 'Trouble' Andrew on a snowboarding DVD. I don't really know what his connection with it was.. He was just on it doing gigs and whatever.. He seems like a bit of a fuck up. Likes to party. I guess that can't be a bad thing though. Either way, he makes some pretty good music. I'm going with Mike on this one and moving things away from the normal stuff we post. This is a proper chilled song. It's not 'dance music' or anything like that. I guess you could call it pop. Whatever you want to call it, this is Trouble Andrew. And i like it.
I haven't posted in a while because the network firewall for my university accomodation blocks the majority of the file hosting sites we use to avoid any problems with copyright. Although this is really annoying Liddell has done a great job of holding the fort, while I haven't been able to post. However, I have found that soundcloud isn't blocked so hopefully now I'll be able to join in with all the fun and show you what's been stuck on my stereo recently.
The four of us that post on this blog have a lot of music in common, however we also all have our own personal preferences and, although I love all the music that goes up on this blog, I try to highlight this by posting things a little bit different to what everybody else is posting. Hopefully you'll enjoy this mix, which was done by a friend of mine, playing host to some of the hottest new electro/dubstep/grime/bassline around at the moment. Turn it up.
Here's the mix from Decoy Rocktopus (aka Simon Docherty)
Tracklisting:
MeNeO - Subidan Major Lazer - Pon Di Floor (Ernold Sane Remix) Tittsworth - WTF (Smoke & Mirrors Remix) Rico Tubbs - Boom Riddim Modeselektor - The Black Block (Hiddensee 2008 Version) Oh Snap!! - Bill Cosby Sweater (Kazey and Bulldog Remix) Dj Class & Lil Jon - I'm The Ish Remix Rico Tubbs - Lumberjack The Faint - Mirror Error (Das Glow Remix) Tiga - Shoes (Mr Oizo Remix) Boys Noize - Starter Drop The Lime - Like Thunder Shadow Dancer - Infinite Lies High Rankin - Bubble & Squeak Shy Child - Noise Won't Stop (Buraka Som Sistema Remix) Starkey feat Durrty Goodz - Gutter Music Zomby - 1 Up Tempa T - Next Hype (Moska Remix)
You should also check out the Dusty Kid - 'Essential Mix' while it's up for some of the best psychedelic italian techno featuring Radiohead and Jose Gonzalez.
I also thought this was quite amusing. Liddell will post a link for download in the near future.
Cookie Monsta is making a real name for himself in the dubstep scene. He's producing none-stop and it's all proper good quality stuff. He's got a new mix which i was listening to yesterday in awe.. It's really something else. I dunno if i can post it but I'll find out and see what i can do.
Anyway, I heard this song a while ago in Jakwob's "Wobcast" mix and i loved it. I think it's one of those songs where you need a specific taste in filthy music to enjoy. It really is enough to make you feel a bit light-headed and queezy.
It's also a nice fat 320k so turn it up extra loud..!
Dannie Darko was nice enough to give us a 320 of this nice little dubstep mix of Dr. Dre. Don't know much about the guy (from London I think) with a pretty barren myspace but a SoundCloud page with 6 tracks that speak for themselves. Driving basslines galore!
I've not heard of Pance Party before and i was sceptical as to what this song was going to be like first time i heard it. I've heard a lot of bad rap/hiphop remixes and i wasn't expecting this to be great. However, I was wrong. So very wrong. This song is amazing. Lil' Jon - I Do (Pance Party Remix) 320k
Yet another brilliant Ellie Goulding remix, this time from Jeuce. Choppy vocals mixed with a great big wobbling bass makes a song you want in your Itunes. Grab this remix and also check out Jeuce on Myspace.
Hard to believe this is Sub Focus really, piano samples over a house beat with some nice wobble to accompany it, pretty cheery stuff from the legendary dnb producer. Get on this, quickly. Check 'Move Higher' too, seriously fidgety!
Low key 2-step from The xx. This song gives me chills ! I never saw this coming when I saw this track appear, if you haven't heard of them The xx (formerly Xerox Teens) are 4 kids from South London who make seriously beautiful music. They went to school with Burial, and have worked with Diplo ! With no drummer (just a drum-machine) they explore all kinds of genres alongside singer-guitarist Romy's indie-princess voice. In places it all kind of comes together like minimal dubstep, but this remix gives a more 2-step feel. They play The Cockpit in Leeds on my birthday - win.
Some new Skream, but probably not the song you were expecting. Pure darkness from Mr. Jones, the track got rejected by Mau5's label cos they wanted 'something wobbly'. The humming bassline and sneaky snares are alright by me though, see what you think.
Jakwob was giving this one away for free on his SoundCloud page. Proper nice edit of the original, keeps the original melody but adds a subtle bassline underneath, definitely prefer it to the LA Boxers' dub of the track. If this doesn't make you tap your feet and nod your head I dunno what will. Look forward to ANOTHER Ellie Goulding remix from Jakwob aswell, the thought of it makes me a little bit wet.
High Rankin's been kicking up a fuss with some seriously heavy dubstep recently. Two of his tracks have been used on Herve's Cheap Thrills Volume 1 (which, apart from the Rankin' tracks, [Fake Blood's] Fix Your Accent & [Speaker Junk's] Outside, is a bit of a disappointment) and Leeds' heads can see him at Bigger Than Barry on the 24th November. This track's taken from the No Money For Guns EP (out on Cheaper Thrills) and can't be described as anything other than HEAVY.
For some reason I've only just realised how sick this song is. It's been hiding in my music library for months. Serious gutter bass from 16bit. Check out Borgore's original stuff too, dubstep producer from Tel Aviv which is pretty unusual, definitely worth a listen. I've got an inkling Yael Naim's his sister for some reason aswell ?

Since a few of us were in Newcastle over the weekend, and Andy George & Jaymo partied at the friends' house we stayed at a couple of nights before, I figure this song's appropriate after a week of no posts ! The first production I've heard from the two as a pair combines George's bouncy bass with Jaymo's more electro lean. If you dint already know, the two have got a regular slot on Radio One now every first Thursday of the month from 9pm - 10pm.
New feel from Armand Van Helden. Blends quite a few genres in his remix of North London next-big-electro-thing Ou Est Le Swimming Pool. Probably the most random name for a band I've ever heard.
Bouncy electro fun from Laidback Luke's mate Afrojack. Love the original of this track but I reckon if I post that this post's gone within a day. Oh well, poke her dick. It's a pretty stripped down remix, Afrojack sticking to his simplistic sound, but I think it's just that I love the original so much that I love this remix too, who knows.
Chilled out dubstep at it's best. I did some research and I've come up with the result that this track's a cover of Britney Spears' Toxic by a collab of Buju Banton (a dancehall/reggae musician, homophobe & cannabis cultivator) and Yael Naim (a French/Israeli singer/songwriter, you might know her song, New Soul, from the Macbook Air ads) [*stop for breath] then it's remixed by 16bit, big news. Just download it and check it for yourself anyway. Came out in 2008 on Sequence Recordings.
If you can remember Rusko's essential mix from late last year, you might remember this track as a standout. The Prodigy get turned into a dubstep MONSTER!
Jayou's a dude who could construct an orchestra of wobble, his productions are always bang on, and he's got a bit of class about him somehow. Probably 'cos he knows how to make those humming basslines that clean your ears ( check 'Don't Cheat Don't Steal' ).
Two&Fro (Luke Elliott & Alex Cornforth) are really beginning to make a name for themselves on the Newcastle scene with sets coming up at the O2 Academy, a residency spot at Sea and regular work across the country on behalf of Red Bull. It's not undeserving either, and aside from the fact they're two of my best friends, these guys are providing some of the most innovative and exciting fidget sets that i've seen in a while. Where as most up and coming dj's of our generation are still learning to beatmatch and drop a fat bassline these guys are years ahead of the competition taking their time to edit songs and samples on ableton to guarantee that their set is original and inspiring. As they gain more exposure and get more experience under their belts these guys are definitely two to watch out for in the future.
Here's a quick mix provided by one half of the duo, Luke Elliott.
Not heard anything new from Dada Life for a while, but they've taken (probably one of the weirdest songs I've heard in a while) Audacity of Huge and made it dancefloor friendly with a pretty mint house beat. This is the 10th in the Swedes' Guerilla Fart remixes if your interested aswell, and their album, Just Do The Dada's out now on The Hours.
Fuck knows why I haven't heard about this 'til now, fucking ridiculousness from Chase & Status bassing the shit out of old school Dizzee Rascal (when he was jus' a rascal and dint jus' chat shit about holidays). Starts out dub then turns into some meaty dnb. Managed to find a 278kbps (?) version from some shotty website. Turn it up loooouuuddddd! Credit to Ollie for finding this gem.
Remember Enigma's Hide & Seek remix? KT and Enigma both go to uni in Leeds aswell, so gotta show some love! Enigma's definitely one to watch out for now.
I've never heard of Sharooz before but he seems to be doing pretty well for himself with both 2 Many DJ's and Moby dropping this track. To accompany that fact that Miles Dyson has done a remix of the song means that Sharooz should be gaining some good publicity.
I don't usually like this kind of electro as it can get a little bit repetitive but this track has an amazing drop into one of the dirties basslines i've heard in a while. Seriously, I had to take a shower after hearing this.
I can't stop listening to it! If you've got speakers with good bass turn them RIGHT up! (Alternatively if you have speakers with poor bass, you may want to invest in some good ones to listen to this song as the bassline will not be heard on shit speakers).
There's 4 of us here at FTD, giving you mp3's of songs we like, philosophical bullshit ideas on life + occasional opinions on things that don't matter; like forks and shit. Any mp3's you see here that you are/represent the owner of please email one of us rather than having the entire post ripped down.
Send your complaints/praise/general facts/tracks here.
We recently signed an agreement to provide you lot with regular doses of bass - we are committed to this, peace.
