So for the back end of 09 and following on into 2010 (TWENTY-TEN!) I've been on a bit of a grime tip. Regularly tuning in to the Boy Better Know show on Rinse generally keeps you updated with it, and the guys have always got some banter going on to keep you entertained in between (generally about how shit the other one's are on Pro Evo/Street Fighter). So I'm offering up a link to the most recent podcast and and a Virus Syndicate track I heard on there the other week. It fuses dubstep production with grime artists over the top, with some Pablo chucked in....you'll see what I mean.

Zero G - Ransom

Which one do you prefer? Answers on a postcard (aka. the comments section). Either way watching Taken was one of the best 2hrs of my life, someone needs to count the total number of neck chops Liam Neeson dishes out. Sick guy.

It's a big one....

godzilla_king_kong_small

Here's a mighty load for you to fill your ears with. Unfortunately for you its not all 320 but if your that upset about it, get rid of your vagina and go buy it.

These are my selection of my favorite songs at the moment so enjoy....

First ones a remix from The Killabits, nice and gritty

A nice Switch remix of a Major Lazer song featuring M.I.A

Now here's a remix by Lee Mortimer who's starting to sound a little like Jack Beats in this BassMonkeys remix

Nice Track here from Designer Drugs

Here's a Diplo remix of Drop The limes 'Devils Eyes'

Awesome track here from alex metric! Different to his usual stuff I must say but its a foot in the right direction if you ask me.

Here's a Speaker Junk remix of a Bassnectar song that featured in one of Foamo's mixes last year.

Awesome song that I can't get off repeat.

This next one is probably one of my favorite songs in the last few months! Everything that South Rakkas seem to be producing recently is really good, you need to get on tha Crew!

Wicked Joker remix right here, I was reserved in my judgment towards it seeing as i love the original so much but this is without a doubt up to standards!

And last but not least, something different for you. I'll let the song do the talking.

As you can see we're more than back from the 'blip'.

Keep an eye out for some exclusive stuff coming up in the next week or so.....

late night dnb

This song could polish off any night nicely. Real wind-down feel to it, surprising from the producer who smashed out ridiculously bouncy dubstep tunes last year, e.g. Kick Snare and Up & Down, Crissy Criss. You might know I'm not really keen on drum n bass, so it takes some next level stuff to impress me, and this is. The guy's doing pretty well for himself now, and recently got his own show on 1Xtra, every Thursday morning 1am - 5am, so show some love and listen in if you got the time.

borgore bitchez

Someone we've mentioned briefly before on these pages, Borgore: the dubstep producer outta Tel-Aviv that's freshening stuff up in the scene. With plenty of second-rate producers churning out shitty dubs far too frequently, Asaf Borgore's a real breath of filthy air in the scene. Some of the dopest dubstep I've ever heard and causing more noise in the scene than a Nazi drinking game. Anyway, we figured it was time the dude got a post to himself, so here's to you Borgore. Catch him in these cities on these dates in Febuary, not sure on the venues but a quick Google should let you know if you're interested. Mp3's after the button too!

Placca Tom

Our good friend Placca Tom's just churned out another mixtape over at his music/culture blog, Breaks of 10. Featuring exclusive, unreleased tracks from Foamo, Lee Mortimer and Ali Love, alongside a monster of a Filthy Dukes remix featuring Wiley. Full post here.

check ma swagger

Probably my stand-out track from the recent Jack Beats Mishka Mix, Supafly by 15yr old rapper Fugative, has finally dropped. Head over to The Fat! Club to grab the full length A1 Bassline remix. Shank takes a much more minimal vibe on this one and sacrifices the squelch in place of some house rhythms, but by no means is this is a bad thing. If you were lucky enough to be in London last night and got to hit Chew The Fat's January Sale, I'm incredibly jealous. Now go here.

10 you might have missed

Instead of doing a mammoth (belated) 'best of' post for the year, I thought I'd offer out some alternatives to what's been getting churned out of the rest of the 'sphere at this time. FTD are giving you 10 BIG productions you might've missed in 2009 for whatever reason(s) (drug abuse/lack of sight/thinking about how much of a gimp Noel Edmonds is - yeah, you could spend a whole year doing that). These are in no order at all by the way, just 10 sick productions that you might've missed or maybe never got released.

Time Warp

Going back in time on this one.

I love going through all my old music. Songs that lead me to the music I'm into now and stuff that changed how I looked at (listened to?) music then. I thought I'd share some history with you. Some you'll know others you probably won't...,it was all relatively mainstream as underground music goes but all very good!

The first song I'm posting is the song right from the top of my "Hype Machine" playlist.
Moby - Dream About Me (Sebastian Ingrosso Remix)

This next one is the song that pretty much got me into fidget. All my mates were listening to this and i just hadn't heard anything like it before.. Let's say this opened up a new world of music for me..
The Streets - Let's Push Things Forward (Hostage Remix)

If you listen to the radio you'll most probably have heard that Wiley and Chew Fu song. I don't know what it's called.. I heard it the other day and i knew I'd heard it somewhere before.. I realised it's the 'Chew Fu Fix' of 'New York New York' by Frank Sinatra but with some Londoner 'rapping' over the top of it (and without the Frank Sinatra bits..). Well the original's here for the taking and much much better than Wiley.
Frank Sinatra - New York New York (Chew Fu Fix)

Last of the Time Warp songs for today is from two massive artists.. Pretty much the biggest and best fidget (and Dubstep) DJ/producers there are to be honest.. Another song that changed how I see music.. It pretty much introduced me to all things wobbly.. I mean, the Hostage remix of The Streets was some pretty wobbly bass, but this is some seriously wobbly bass! (I'm bored of the word wobbly, can we change it?!) This song is like a classic of it's genre, and probably will be for a very long time!
AC Slater - Jack Got Jacked (Jack Beats Remix)

Bonus:
Something a bit newer now, not brand new, but not far off..
OH SNAP!! - Plus Size Model (Jakwob Wobble Edit)

And i think that leaves us in approximately 2010?
Welcome back.

Flux Capacitor

Flux Pavillion's had a beast of a 2009, definitely been at the forefront of dubstep for the later part of the year. Pioneering (along with Doctor P and old-skool legend DJ Swan-E) Circus Records this year, and having 4 of the best dubstep producers already on their bill (Flux, Doctor P, Cookie Monsta, Funtcase) is only gonna make 2010 an even heavier year for the dudes. Kick off your 2010 with this Flux P track.

Aaron Ells

Our good friend Aaron Ells has just recorded an exclusive mix for the music, art and culture blog, Breaks of 10. With this being the first of an exclusive mixtape series from the blog you should definitely keep checking back for more but for now you can check out this bass laced wizardry here.

And Now For Something Completely Different

I know this isn't what we usually post on here, but it's such a sick song...! Maybe you don't like Beyonce, you don't like Lady Gaga. But if you like bass (I'm guessing you do reading a blog about bass heavy music) then you'll like this. Honestly, wear some good headphones or just plug in some good speakers and listen for the bass when it comes in. It's beautiful..!

Dub Police

If you haven't already heard, up next in the Scion A/V Sampler series is none other than heavyweight dubstep label, Dub Police. Headed by Caspa and pushed forward by Trolley Snatcha, Emalkay & Leeds' own Distinction (oh and some dude called Rusko?), they've been churning out releases since I was listening to Blink 182 and putting chains on my Berny's. The album drops on 22nd Febuary, and I'm sure you all know a good list of places where you can buy it. Here's a taster of what's to come thanks to Emalkay and full tracklisting here.
